29 October 2025 - TrashPanda 2.0 Official Release

TrashPanda 2.0 is Finally Here!

TrashPanda official stamp

The full release version, Trash Panda 2.0, is finally here! After more than 45 days of testing across four beta versions, we're confident it's ready for everyone.

With this release, several new updates, bug fixes and enhancements are completed. Additionally, TrashPanda now supports 18 languages with many more on the way.

More Options, Better Protections

When compared to other programs on the market, TrashPanda provides more options to clean with your Mac, with better protections.

While TrashPanda was already quite secure, we've added best-in-class protections that use blockchain-like logging and safeguards against the most complex ways a hacker could try to use the app to compromise your system.

Thank You Beta Testers

Thanks to the 230 customers who supported the beta and provided feedback. It is strongly recommended to update to v2.0 as the beta versions will expire on 31 December 2025.

We'd love to provide a metric of the total amount cleaned in the beta, but since we don't collect any analytics or data, we can't. We still firmly believe in the offline privacy-focused approach to the application and stand by it. But if you'd like to reach out and tell us how much you've cleaned from your system, we'd be happy to hear.

22 October 2025 - Almost Ready

Almost Ready

The full V2.0 is almost ready for release. I'm polishing up the UI, finishing up rigorous testing, and completing the first major localization implementation for 15 languages. I still plan to have it released by the end of this month.

13 October 2025 - Version 1.4 Release

Version 1.4 Release

It is ready and available for download! This release is planned as the final pre-release version. Because I added a new feature, implemented additional security measures, and made several UI changes for clarity, it remains a pre-release version but is functionally complete with bonus security measures and a valuable new feature.

The next major release will be version 2.0, which will mark TrashPanda's official launch as a stable, production-ready application.

New Feature: Orphaned Apps Scanner

The new orphaned apps scanner works similarly to other specialized products that scan your installed applications and Application Support folders to identify leftover files from previously uninstalled programs. This feature helps reclaim disk space by finding orphaned configuration files, caches, and other data left behind when apps are removed from your system.

Independent Security Assessment

An independent security assessment by Claude Code has been completed and published. TrashPanda achieved an 9.0/10 security score, ranking #1 among evaluated macOS system utilities with comprehensive test coverage (253 total tests, 133 security-focused), Security Dashboard with real-time monitoring, backup verification, and 17-language support.

This comprehensive assessment was conducted by four independent AI systems and designed for complete transparency. The unedited audit results are provided in their entirety, with the results page also designed by AI to ensure I had no interaction beyond providing the raw data. View the complete security audit to review the detailed analysis and transparency report.

Development Page / RSS Feed

A new development page has been added to the header navigation for those who want to track progress or see release versions as they become available. An RSS feed is now available to notify you of updates to this page. Add the language-appropriate URL to your RSS reader to stay updated.

Online Mentions

Finally, I'm exploring ways for people to discover TrashPanda. A big thanks to VVMac for a great unsolicited article; as a result over 50% of the current users are French speakers! I am working on getting the app interface translated; it is just taking a while to do correctly for 30+ languages. This will likely be in v1.5.

6 October 2025 - Beta 3 (v1.3) is Finally Ready!

Beta 2 (v1.2) Release

Beta 2 (v1.2) was sent out the door mostly as a patch for some issues I did not like with V1, while I continued to work on the full features that were not yet ready to get released. After many weeks of late night coding, testing, incorporating feedback, and adding "Just one more feature", I think I am happy with the beta and that the base roadmap is complete.

New Features Added

The release means the following new features have been added:

  • New onboarding tutorial: step-by-step guide for first-time users
  • Whats New panel: displays patch notes and updates after app updates
  • Guard Mode: protect important files and folders from accidental deletion
  • Scheduled cleanups: automated hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly maintenance
  • Maintenance Hub: manage schedules, backups, shared categories and logs
  • Saved Patrols feature: save and reuse custom cleanup workflows
  • Import/Export functionality: share custom categories and configurations
  • Interactive welcome carousel: showcases key app features
  • Built-in Help system: user guide and searchable documentation
  • Enhanced security: protects against malicious imports
  • Bug fix: Fixed category calculation bugs affecting 15+ categories
  • Category separation fix: Corrected User Caches vs System Caches category separation
  • Security notes: added directions for touch-id optional security
  • Stats dashboard: new stats module tracks space cleaned over time and free space

Quality Assurance

I have tried to break the program, break my MacOS system, and generally wreak any possible havoc I can in order to comprehensively test TrashPanda. The systems are in place within the program to prevent malicious code execution, bad choices by the user trying to delete core directories or other major bugs. I have not had any issues with TrashPanda running all of the categories every hour of the last few days.

That does not mean it is perfect, I am sure within days of release something will pop up requiring a patch.

But for now I would like to get it out to everyone.

Referral Program Reminder

Please check out https://trashpandamacos/referrals if you haven't already. I would greatly prefer this program grow through real life connections between people instead of message boards and self-promotion. The price went up slightly yesterday and will continue to go up until the Final Release is out.

Invoices

For some of you, there was a window of time when Stripe did not send out invoices after successful payment. If you did not receive one and want one, please fill out the support form and I will push one to you.

Feedback

There is a web link in the app and here to leave feedback on TrashPanda. We would appreciate any feedback on your experience, items you'd like to see added or items you do not like.

Thank You

Thanks to all who have messaged me about TrashPanda. I have enjoyed conversations with people all over the world. I look forward to hearing your feedback and hopefully saving you space on your hard drive.

Cheers, -TrashPanda

P.S. About AI Usage

I have received some questions about AI usage. It is an important topic and this is my stance. Did I use AI to help me make TrashPanda? Yes, I used AI (specifically Sonnet 4/4.5 and Opus) just as I would use websites and forums to learn new techniques. This program was produced by me and facilitated with the help of AI. The help guide would have taken one week alone to write but AI helped me summarize the entire program in a useful way. I have also had a human copywriter review all the text to hopefully make sure it is understandable by all.

I, personally, have audited the full code for safety and security. It has been quite relieving as well to know that the program CANNOT touch the internet which removes many of the concerns for data sharing and privacy. I have also used multiple independent AI engines to audit the code for security, QA, design, recommended tests - everything I could think of that would be a risk with the program. The AI honestly found some pretty scary results on things I had overlooked, especially with someone sharing a category with another user. This forced me to rewrite everything. Each round of audits, I found something new. I could not have produced this level and quality of program and be able to offer it at this price without AI assisting as a tool for ideas, implementation, documentation, and recommended test environments. Had I not used AI, I would have released a potentially dangerous (or useless) tool. That said, I do intend to have independent human review of the program; this just takes time and money. It would also be ideal once bugs have been patched and it is ready for full release.

1 October 2025 - Beta 2 (v1.2) Released

Beta Update Notice

Beta versions will expire therefore it is strongly encouraged to update your program each time a version is released. You will always retain access to download TrashPanda even if your version expires.

Exceeding Expectations

I was pleasantly surprised to see the number of paying customers and the overall traffic to the website. It far exceeded my initial expectations for the beta launch only 5 days ago!

175

Total Users

320

Website Hits

There has been great feedback from the first beta. If you love or dislike something about TP, please let us know. The code is being updated daily with user feedback.

Beta 2 (v1.2) Updates

The full list of changes are documented in the app but hundreds of additions include updates to the UI, more categories, relocated file scanners, and more documentation, custom saved cleanups and scheduled cleanups. Our website FAQ page also had a massive FAQ update.

I'm working also on updating everything across 32 languages including the app itself with quality, useful, and technical translations.

Price Increase Notice

Before price increases set in, now is a good time to share with those who might want to get in pre-release. The price will go up with each beta version release until launch; v2 increase will happen on 5 October 2025. I anticipate the release price will be somewhere around $6.99.
